Expected Results

  • Provide electrical and instrumentation technical support to production and maintenance groups.  Primary areas will include valve and instrument condition monitoring, ultrasonic’s, thermal imaging, motor testing, and other technologies as applicable to improve reliability of motors, drives, electrical systems, control valves, instrumentation, process control systems and other related equipment or components. 
  • This position is an Electrical/Instrumentation position and part of a multi-craft Apprenticeship program.  Basic skill responsibilities in pipefitting, carpentry, and lubrication are included in this program.
  • The successful candidate must complete the obligations defined in the multi-craft program, including a significant obligation of completing the required home study course work.

Supporting Activities

  • Instrumentation responsibilities include installing, troubleshooting, calibrating, and maintaining control valves, positioners, magnetic & mass flowmeters, transmitters, load cells, pneumatic & 4-20 mA signals, phone systems,
  • Electrical responsibilities include installing, troubleshooting, and replacing power and control wiring, electrical motors, switches, lighting, receptacles, solenoids, fuses, magnetic motor controls, transformers, AC & DC inverters, and other electrical equipment.  Voltages range from 120V – 23 kV. 
  • Adheres to Mill safety program, Mill safety rules, and compliance with work permits, utilizing all required PPE.
  • Promotes a safe working environment and safe work practices.
  • Participates in and completes all OSHA required training. 
  • Supports company Environmental Policies and helps prevent environmental non-compliance through equipment and controls reliability.
  • Work as a team with a positive attitude to improve reliability and eliminate problems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical & instrumentation drawings.  Mark up existing drawings as needed.

Required Prior Accomplishments - Experience - Skills

  • Minimum high school diploma/GED. Higher education in a technical degree in electrical, instrumentation, or electrical technology field, preferred.
  • Completion of a state certificate electrical or instrumentation apprenticeship program is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience as an Electrical/Instrumentation Technician, experience working in a heavy industrial environment preferred.
  • Individual must be capable of reviewing, updating and understanding technical documents and drawings. 
  • Position is initially day shift, however, there is potential for shift work and extended hours during outages, breakdowns, and startups. Compensated at an hourly wage rate.
  • Willingness to take call-ins on the off-shifts and on your scheduled day off.
  • Experience with Microsoft products, experience in Computerized Maintenance Management System, (CMMS) preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated continuing self-development.
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team to reach a common goal.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Safety conscious.
