Expected Results

Appvion is looking for a Safety Intern for the summer semester at their pulp and paper manufacturing facility in Roaring Spring, PA. The Safety Intern will be responsible for assisting the Safety Department in all aspects of Appvion’s Safety Program. The successful candidate will assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems and procedures.

 

The Safety internship is intended to provide students with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment and support the student’s career goals.  The Safety internship experience allows students the opportunity to integrate knowledge and skills in manners that are mutually beneficial to both the student and Appvion. 

Supporting Activities

The intern will be responsible for assisting the Safety Department with the following:

  • Coordinating and performing industrial hygiene functions.
  • Conducting facility wide hazard assessments to identify hazards and recommend personal protective equipment.
  • Assisting in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems and procedures.
  • Reviewing and updating existing job hazard analysis.
  • Taking part in accident and near-miss investigations.
  • Other duties may include reviewing and updating various safety programs, policies and training materials.

Required Prior Accomplishments - Experience - Skills

 

  • Ability to work the summer semester. 
  • Basic Microsoft software skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • The ideal candidate will be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Industrial Hygiene with the intent to attend the subsequent term as a full-time student.
  • Current enrollment at an accredited college is required.
