    Responsible for quality and process engineering support in the Sheeting Operations facility in alignment with Appvion’s Key Results, Strategic Objectives and Cultural Beliefs.

    • Identify and implement processes and systems to continuously improve safety, quality and cost reduction.
    • Investigate, document and resolve internal and external customer complaints and other quality issues.
    • Follow-up on complaints by documenting findings and leading cross-functional teams to ensure that sustained corrective actions are implemented in order to meet customer expectations.
    • Support sheeting operations in daily continuous improvement efforts.
    • Provide technical expertise and leadership which incorporates customer needs, production capabilities, product design, and service capabilities in creating solutions.
    • Ability to travel to Appleton, Wisconsin facility as needed prior to equipment installation(s) and start-up is required.

    Supporting Activities

    • Lead cross-functional teams to resolve complaints in a timely and methodical manner which includes tracking lots and genealogy of products. Interface with customers to develop long-term corrective actions that meet or exceed customer requirements.
    • Implement infrastructure and systems to prevent repetitive and/or large value complaints. This can include implementing capital projects benefitting quality and other continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Conduct daily quality review of test results and ensure proper disposition of any non-conforming product.
    • Utilize Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, standardization of SOPs, and other methodologies to make process and system improvements.
    • Practice daily continuous improvement in all aspects of work, emphasizing problem solving and sharing with others.
    • Utilize statistical and other data analysis methodologies to analyze trends that could lead to customer issues and/or an increase in yield waste at the Sheeters.
    • Complete customer Corrective Action Requests.
    • Perform quality audits and coordinate/conduct testing equipment calibrations and collaborative testing.
    • Support the supplier non-conformance process.
    • Train machine operators on how to accurately do testing of products.
    • Submit specification changes as needed to meet customer requirements.
    • Review and update test methods and quality control procedures.
    • Maximize efficiencies and yields while maintaining product quality and customer satisfaction. This includes coordinating, conducting and evaluating trials.
    • Monitor and continuously improve manufacturing conditions and settings including analyzing process variations to determine interactions and effects on product and quality parameters.
    • Provide support during equipment installation, start-up and after installation in order to optimize new equipment.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve process and equipment issues.
    • Weekend work and on-call coverage based on business needs.

    Required Prior Accomplishments - Experience - Skills

    • B.S. degree in engineering, science, quality, or equivalent years of experience working as a Quality Engineer and/or Process Engineer. Preference is for a degree in Chemical Engineering or Paper Science Engineering.
    • 1-5+ years of experience preferred in process engineering and/or quality-related experience in a manufacturing setting. 
    • Experience/knowledge of sheeting and/or converting is preferred.
    • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safe work practices.
    • Aptitude for problem-solving, data analysis, and attention to detail. Ability to apply engineering and scientific principles to quickly resolve problems and make improvements.
    • Fluency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
    • Capable of working in a flexible, often shifting environment.
    • Ability to interact effectively with customers, management team, operators, maintenance and other support teams within the company.
    • Strong understanding of manufacturing environments, processes and procedures.
    • Ability to facilitate and drive to resolution complex problems.
    • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, be results oriented and a team player.
    • Must have excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to travel on an as needed basis.
    • Experience in the use of Minitab or similar software to do statistical analysis of data is desired.
    • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and/or other disciplines with a focus on continuous improvement is desired (but not a requirement).
